WE'RE GETTING READY FOR THE KOMBAT ZONE

The TKO Fight team are currently finishing their preparations for the upcoming KOMBAT ZONE event entitled 'Unfinished Business'. Headlining this event will be our current two times World Champion Ashley Collins who will be defending his Light-Cruiserweight World title against Adam McDermid from the USA. Ashley won the title last October in Minneapolis defeating Adam by second round knockout and Adam has pushed for a rematch ever since so this challenge will be met at the Amadeus Nightclub on 9th May. The last fight was shaping up nicely to be a tough battle until Ashley scored the decisive KO with a kick to the head so we are expecting nothing but the best that Adam can bring.

Alongside Ashley other TKO fighters due to appear include Bradley Collins, Neil Wyborn, Joe Wells, Dean Hicks, Warren Fryer, Garthy Shove, Lewis Corps and Jenna Yates. Jenna and Dean being the newest members of the TKO team and they will be making their débuts at this event.

Tickets are going fast so you should move fast to avoid missing out. Tickets are at all 3 TKO gyms or available online at
www.amadeusclubtickets.com

KOMBAT ZONE A HUGE SUCCESS
The first KOMBAT ZONE event held at the Amadeus Nightclub on 29th November was a resounding success, not only as an event but also for the TKO team.

Successful defences were made by World Champion Ashley Collins, European Champion Carla Jessup and British Champion Neil Wyborn. Alex Manning scored a win on his ring debut, however Joe Wells, Lewis Corps and Chris Catermole were all closely outpointed in their contests.

Having made a successful White Collar Boxing debut last September Warren Fryer scored a second win in a row with a points decision over Bill Coles from Fight Factory.

NEWS UPDATE

We must apologise for the lack of updates to the site, however that's not due to us not being busy because we have been. Here are just a few items of news that have happened over the past 3 months and hopefully now we can go back to our regular news updates.

Friday 9th October
ASHLEY WINS SECOND WORLD TITLE IN THE USA

Ashley Collins and Rob Burbridge went off to Minneapolis to fight for IKF World Amateur titles and they did us proud. Rob fought for the World title at Super-middleweight and lost by split decision in a very tough fight to Caleb Plant. Caleb was a great fighter and Rob took him very close but it was not to be this time. A rematch will be sought for 2010.

Ashley took a second world title by stepping up to Light-cruiserweight and knocking out Adam McDermid in the second round, catching Adam with a roundhouse kick that left him unable to continue. A fantastic win and it makes Ashley one of the few true double World kickboxing Champions.

Both fights were uploaded to Facebook so anyone who is a member of the TKO Facebook group can see the fights there.

Saturday 26th September
DARREN TAKES LAST MINUTE FIGHT AND WINS ANOTHER BELT FOR TKO

Darren Chan took a fight at 24 hours notice and defeated Steve Marshfield from Bristol by second round knockout with a spinning back kick and took with it the IKF Southern Area Professional Light-welterweight title.

Also Zach Jee fought Josh Wellman and came out with a close points win.

Another great night for the TKO team.

Sunday 6th September

Neil Wyborn became our latest Champion when he beat Peter Muffett for the vacant IKF British Amateur welterweight title. Great win for Neil.

Former unbeaten Amateur Champion Dan Chubb won his first fight as a professional beating Mark Townley.

Rob Burbridge made the first defence of his IKF 5 Nations Amateur super-middleweight title beating opponent Duane Green who had previously given Rob a very tough fight.

Chantelle Cameron became a two weight Champion beating Stacey Dougherty for the vacant IKF British Amateur Super-lightweight title.

Others who fought were Shane McInenery, Zach Jee and Charlotte Skeets.

SUCCESSFUL TRIP TO 'UNLEASHED'.

It was 2 wins out of 3 on Saturday at the big UNLEASHED event being promoted by Bailang Promotions in Telford. Neil Wyborn took another win beating Craig Priestley from Lincoln. This was sweet revenge for Neil who lost to Craig last year. This success follows his recent win over James McCallion and secured for Neil a shot at the vacant IKF Southern Area Welterweight title on 6th Sept.

Darren Chan made a successful and very short debut for the team with a win in just 50 seconds, knocking out Sam Gray with a fantastic roundhouse kick to the head. Darren fights again on 11th July in Birmingham.

Dan Chubb made his Professional debut but was closely defeated by the very experienced Scott Rowley. This was a tough assignment for Dan in his first fight since he left the amateurs but he did us proud and his fight with Scott was fight of the night fought at a very fast pace for all 6 rounds. Dan will be back in Sept and will be all the better for his experience here.

Well done to all fighters.

Monday 15th June
TEAM TKO COMPETING AGAIN THIS WEEK AT 'UNLEASHED'.

3 members of the TKO Full contact team will be fighting again this coming week at the big UNLEASHED event being promoted by Bailang Promotions in Telford. Dan Chubb makes his long awaited professional debut having remained unbeaten as an amateur. Dan meets Scott Rowley from the famous Bulldog Gym in Bournemouth. Darren Chan also meets a Bulldog fighter in his first fight for the TKO team when he meets Sam Gray and Neil Wyborn gets the rematch he has wanted against Craig Priestley from Lincoln. The two met 18 months ago with Craig taking the win so Neil will looking for revenge.

Tickets are still available so if you want to come along and support the team speak to any TKO Instructor to purchase a ticket.

Best of luck to all the fighters.

Monday 1st June
ASHLEY WINS WORLD TITLE!....7 WINS OUT OF 7 FOR TKO TEAM

First of all sorry for this very late update to the website but things have been very busy since the big event on 10th May. Moved from our usual home at the Casino Rooms to the AMADEUS nightclub the event was an outstanding success with all 7 TKO fighters winning including Ashley Collins who won the IKF World Amateur Light-heavyweight title with a knockout of Travis Mason in just 34 seconds! Travis had beaten Ashley last year in Florida, but there was no close points decision this time as Ashley hit home early.

Wins were also scored by Rob Burbridge (IKF 5 Nations Amateur Super-middleweight Champion), Carla Jessup (IKF European Amateur Bantamweight Champion), Chantelle Cameron (IKF 5 Nations Amateur Light-Welterweight Champion), Neil Wyborne, Joe Wells and Mike Nevitt who won in his first fight.

It was a great night and thanks go to all members for all your support.

Monday 30th March
ANOTHER WIN FOR CHANTELLE & WORLD TITLE SHOT FOR ASHLEY

Chantelle Cameron scored another win at the weekend outpointing Zoe Land in a performance that was called by chief official Pete Richardson as 'Awesome' and the 'performance of the night'.

Chantelle will be next in action with the rest of the TKO team on May 10th where I am also pleased to say Ashley Collins will get a shot at the IKF World Amateur light-heavyweight title. Ashley will meet Travis Mason in a rematch from last years IKF World Classic in Florida which Travis won. Full team line up will be announced on here next week.

Monday 23rd February
THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK A BIG HIT

TKO FIGHTERS DO US PROUD
The Empire Strikes back event on Sunday was the biggest event we have held for many years and the contest for the IKF World Professional Welterweight title between Nick Gill and Mike Morello was outstanding, possibly the best fight ever held at the Casino Rooms.

Our TKO fighters were once again on top form with 6 out of the 8 fighters featured winning their fights. Carla Jessup won the IKF European Amateur bantamweight title, Louise Orton defended her British lightweight title, Rob Burbridge and Dan Chubb made successful defences of their Southern Area titles, Chantelle Cameron defended her 5 nations title and Shane McInenery won his first fight. It was bad luck for Tom Cunningham who lost in his challenge for the IKF British Amateur Super-welterweight title and Bradley Collins lost to Robbie Bent.
I know all the fighters would like to thank all TKO members for coming along and giving them their support. The next event at the Casino Rooms is scheduled for May 10th

Monday 16th February
MEDWAY JUNIORS GO FROM STRENGTH TO STRENGTH

Here are just some of the junior members of the Medway Academy after their successful grading on Sunday. Since coming under the direct supervision of Medway Junior Program Instructor Martina Jones and with the support of Chief Instructor Colin Payne the classes are now going from strength to strength with standards visibly higher than at any other time. To accommodate the expanding Junior membership we have now started an additional program. Anyone who wishes to book a child from age 6 to 11 in for a free introductory class should ring 01634-846944 or of course e-mail via the contact page.

Monday 9th February
CHAMPION JOINS TEAM TKO

We are very pleased to say that our team has been further strengthened this week with the news that Chantelle Cameron has decided to join us and her fight career will come under the guidance of TKO Chief Instructor Colin Payne. Chantelle is already the IKF Five Nations Amateur Light-Welterweight Champion and will make her debut for the TKO team when she defends that title at the Casino Rooms on 22nd February against Michelle Singleton from Wales.

Monday 2nd February

The undercard is full of TKO trained fighters with virtually the whole team being scheduled to appear.

Monday 5th January
TKO TEAM BACK IN TRAINING

The TKO team were back to work on Saturday after the Christmas break when they met for their first session of the year at half 7 in the morning. 2009 will be another busy year for the team who are now in preparation for the upcoming event at the Casino Rooms on 22nd February and fights are already lined up for the remaining months of the first half of the year. Keep checking the website for news on when and where they will be appearing.

Monday 15th December
TKO IN IRELAND

Well done to Joe Wells who came away with a draw after a thrilling contest with Connor MCallion in Galway, Ireland on Saturday. The show promoted by our good friend Peter Foley the I.K.F. representative for Ireland was a great event and Joe's fight was the closest of the night. Joe won the first, Connor took the second and whilst I felt we may have taken the third there was no real argument, it was good fight and both lads didn't deserve to lose.

Rob Burbridge will have to wait a litle longer for his shot at the I.K.F. European Amateur Super-Middleweight title as his fight with champion Cathal Manning had to be postponed due to injuries on both sides. It's anticipated the fight will now go ahead next March in Galway.

This was the last outing of the year for our full contact squad. Its been a great year probably our best ever, we look forward to what next year will bring for them and ask all members to keep giving them the fantastic support you have all year.

Monday 1st December

TKO FIGHTER OF THE YEAR
In what was the best year ever for our full contact team Rob Burbridge was voted the TKO fighter of the year. Rob has fought 5 times in the past year, all wins and has picked up the IKF Southern Area amateur Super-middleweight title along the way. On 13th December he will be in Ireland to contest the European title.

Here is a selection of other pictures taken on the night.

Wednesday 15th October
STEVENAGE, 4TH OCTOBER

Belated results from our trip to the Trevor Spencer promoted event in Stevenage last week. Zach Jee got a good win when he clearly outpointed Ravi Banwara from Bedford and Rob Burbridge had his toughest fight for some time but still came through to beat Duane Green from Norwich.

It wasn't all good news as Joe Wells, Ashley Fisher and Neil Wyborn all lost very close points decisions. However it must be said the loss for Neil was bewildering to say the least. Having won the first two rounds very clearly he was forced to take a count in the third. By all known criteria that should have made it a draw, however we were shocked to see the hand of opponent Paul Baxter raised. A strange one, but no doubt a rematch can be made sometime and Neil can get a chance to put things right.

Thanks to all those TKO members who came along to support the fighters, it was much appreciated.

Monday 6th October
THE 3RD BATTLE OF KENT LIGHT CONTINUOUS EVENT.

Well done to everyone who attended and competed in the latest Battle of Kent event. Fantastic day, over 65 fights and all TKO members who took part did very well. We would also like to thank all those members who simply came along to cheer everyone on.
The next Battle of Kent will take place next March, however we intend to be supporting other BLCC sanctioned events around the country and so hopefully everyone will get another opportunity to compete again soon.

Tuesday 9th Sept
3 NEW CHAMPIONS AT LATEST EVENT

At the Casino rooms on Sunday we had another great night including our team picking up 3 new titles.

Ashley Collins became the new IKF European Amateur Light-heavyweight Champion, Carla Jessup won the IKF 5 nations bantamweight Champion and Louise Orton became the IKF British Amateur Lightweight Champion. 3 great wins against very good opposition.

Ashley Hook did extremely well in taking second place in the LAST MAN STANDING 8 man tournament. He won his first fight then unfortunately had to fight team mate Wayne Kennedy which must have been difficult for both of them, however Ashley took the win only to lose in a very close final against Daniel Winstanley.

Ashley Fisher won points over Ali Cahill and 15 year old Zach Gee made his full contact debut drawing against Dean Alexander.

An excellent night's results for the team, look out for pictures and report in the forthcoming issues of the leading Martial Arts magazines.

SOME SAD NEWS
Steve Brindley R.I.P.

Those of you who have trained with us for some time may well remember Steve Brindley who trained at the MEDWAY Academy for some time but stopped through injury a couple of years back. Unfortunately I have to inform you that Steve tragically died in a car crash around 4 weeks ago.

Steve was just a very nice guy who joined us telling us that 'he had done a little Taekwondo'. What he did not tell us was that he had been a multi title winning Champion with the famous TAGB squad under Mr Dave Oliver, one of the best Taekwondo coaches in the World and was a high ranking Black Belt himself. Steve was a very humble guy who never once made any fuss about his past exploits but trained alongside us and became an active part of our club. As he worked in the area I saw him from time to time and saw him last it seems just a few days before his death. Our condolences go to his family and friends.

For a fuller tribute to Steve visit

TKO gain 3 Champions at the IKF World Open Championships in Florida

I am very proud to say that the TKO fight team achieved fantastic results at the IKF Championships, with all our fighters performing to their very best.

Carla Jessup won the Womens Bantamweight Division and was outstanding in beating all 3 of her opponents including the highly rated Lisa Wells who having beaten last years Champion Stacey Chung was expected to go all the way to the title, however Carla took all 3 rounds in the final and took the title.

Dan Chubb remained unbeaten taking his record to 10-0 winning the welterweight title. In the final it was an all TKO affair as he fought Tom Cunningham, however this was the best fight of the day and the best example of full contact kickboxing on display. I am extremely proud that the team spirit was such that the guys in the team were able to cope with competing with each other and doing so to a very high standard.

Louise Orton won the Junior Girls Featherweight title beating a very good fighter in Summer Satterfield.

The full team was Ashley Collins, Ashley Hook, Carla Jessup, Tom Cunningham, Matt Gilbert, Louise Orton, Dan Chubb, Neil Wyborn and Pat Sheehan from our good friends at Invicta Kickboxing Sittingbourne.

Check out the TKO Facebook group for more pictures and film of the fights from the event will hopefully be on our YOUTUBE channel soon (

ANOTHER CHAMPION FOR TKO.

Rob Burbridge became the IKF Southern Area Amateur Super-Middleweight Champion when he beat Chris James in Bridgewater on Sunday. It was fight of the night and probably the best fight we have been involved in this year. It was a 5 round war with Rob edging the last 2 rounds to take the title.

Wayne Kennedy made it an even better night for us when he took his third win by outpointing a very tough opponent in Krystof (no surname at moment) from Weston Super-mare. Check the website and your e-mail newsletters for details of our teams next outing.
Monday 16th June
TKO TEAM TAKE ANOTHER STEP TOWARDS FLORIDA.

The 9 TKO fighters competing in this year’s IKF World Classic have just completed a full two days training camp at the Medway Academy. 3 sessions on the Saturday with further training on the Sunday (at a time when most of you were definitely in bed!) show that the team is going to be 100% prepared for the event and will do us proud in Florida. They will be joined on their trip by Pat Sheehan from our good friends at Invicta Kickboxing.
Further details on the Florida event nearer the time.

Monday 9th June

TKO AT PAIN AND GLORY

Pain and Glory is the biggest combat sports event held in the UK. Over 2000 people watched the event at the Excel centre in London and some of the countries top fighters were fighting from Thai Boxing, MMA, K1 and Kickboxing. We are proud to say that TKO supplied all the judges for the kickboxing, which was sanctioned by the International Kickboxing Federation. Colin Payne, Warren Fryer and Ian Lohoar had a great night judging the fights that featured Nick Gill, Suky Shoria and Qasim the Dream Nisar against top German opponents. Another indication of the sort of opportunities that we are able to give to members of TKO who wish to pursue a career in judging.

BRITISH LIGHT CONTINUOUS COUNCIL

Chief Instructor Colin Payne has been invited to join the management committee for the BLCC (British Light Continuous Council) and has been appointed as regional Director for the South of England. This is good news for all members as it further helps to maintain TKO in the forefront of all kickboxing activity in the country. No other kickboxing clubs in Kent can match the opportunities we can offer in full contact and with this it now means that we are also the only place to be if you want to compete in light contact as well.

50 ROUNDS DOWN AND SET FOR FLORIDA
Saturday 12th April

Well done to all 9 members of the TKO team who are going to the I.K.F. World Championships in Florida in July. To help raise money to fund the trip they all completed 50 rounds of sparring and with it raised some much needed sponsorship money.
All 9 I know would like to thank all those who came down and supported them and did of course all the sparring required for them to reach the 50.
The 9 who completed the task were Joe Wells, Ashley Collins, Louise Orton, Ben Cressey, Tom Cunningham, Dan Chubb, Matt Gilbert, Carla Jessup and Ashley Hook.

LOUISE ORTON AND TOM CUNNINGHAM GET ANOTHER WIN...AND SAME AS
LAST TIME.

Saturday 5th April

Louise and Tom went to Matlock, Derbyshire for their second fights and both came away with wins. Louise got another 1st round win over Tanya Spencer from Nottingham whilst Tom again won in the second round stopping Jez Shimwell from the home town club Jesters Gym.

Thanks to all the people who came to support, it was a long way to go so I know it was appreciated.

MIXED FORTUNES IN SCOTLAND

On the latest away trip for TKO we had one win and one loss after a long trip to Aberdeen.
Rob Burbridge got a very good clear points win over Mark Anderson, and his lead was never in doubt.
Ashley Collins although clearly winning his fight was victim of the kick-count in use on the show and judged not to have thrown enough kicks in one of the rounds lost a close points decision. A rematch is being sought for next February
Thanks go to Albert Ross for his hospitality at the show.
